Cakeshop Seoul – We check out Seoul’s infamous music venue

Last Friday, on warm May month in Seoul, we escaped from the oh so easy temptation of ‘ahh the weekend, let’s lounge on the sofa’ and hit up Itaewon (the nightlife capital of the city) where we were swiftly reminded of the importance of getting out, meeting people, going to new places, and embracing the inevitable hangover. It was fantastic, here’s a few musings and discoveries.

Firstly, Seoul Community Radio is such a cool little spot, essential a ground floor apartment that’s even turned into a co hang-out, DJ streaming space, bar and event space. We felt at home immediately with vibe and people, quickly making some new friends.
Next, a wonderful audio / cocktail lounge called Dodo, with the owner playing vinyl jazz and soul records in between serving cocktails with his 2 assistants. Great music, and a stunning audio design built into the wall. Highly recommended.

More stop offs followed on Noksapyeong-daero, which had a great mix of Korean and international people enjoying the warm May weather.
Finally we hit the main destination, the famous Cakeshop Seoul, which is one of the city’s leading underground music venues. A much loved Drum & Bass artist from Japan… Makoto was playing. Alongside MC AB from London. Once they started, the room reached almost capacity and the soundsystem was cranked up to full strength.

So all round a great night out and a reminder of the importance of getting out there. What was the last thing you attended and really enjoyed?
